RO 2009

Our yearbook for 2009 has now been published. It contains full reports of the presentations made at our 2009 Conference, an article on stress and an article on vaccinations that expands upon our current advice. The yearbook also contains a very comprehensive article on GBS reprinted with permission from The Lancet.

Reaching Out 2009 has been distributed to the members and the friends of the GBSSG and will be given free to all those who register for support or subscribe. It is also available for sale at £3 per copy plus a delivery charge.

WARNING - please be on your guard against fraudulent Web sites that advertise guaranteed cures for Guillain-Barré syndrome and other conditions.

Latest

Swine Flu Latest   The current outbreak of swine flu is of significance for two reasons: firstly as part of the ongoing debate about the suitability of vaccinations for those affected by GBS/CIDP and, secondly, because a mass vaccination programme in the USA in 1976 resulted in an increase in GBS cases.

We will post any additional notes from our Medical Advisory Board as we receive them. In common with all the information on this site, the notes are offered in good faith but any decision regarding the suitability of any vaccine is a decision that must be taken by an individual and his/her medical advisors.

Psychology study   Catherine Harrison is a Trainee Clinical Psychologist studying at the University of Leicester. As part of her training she is required to conduct a large scale piece of research. She is hoping to look at the effects that GBS has had upon sufferers and like to interview around 15 people about their experiences of having GBS.
25th anniversary   2010 is the 25th Anniversary of the GBS Support Group and there will be several ways in which the GBSSG will be making 2010 a very special year. Please keep checking this page for further information as it becomes available.

Conference 2010   The 25th Anniversary GBSSG Conference will be held on Saturday 17 April at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel near London (Heathrow) Airport.
Dublin video   The presentation given by Dr Angela MacNamara at the Ashling Hotel, Dublin on 6 May was recorded on Video.
