The GBSSG's AGM and Conference will be on 26 April at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Clayton-le-Moors, Blackburn.

Conference speakers

Dr Ian Davidson Lecturer in Rehabilitation & BNurs Examinations Officer, Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, University of Manchester, speaking on a survey he did of members relating to their gait.

Professor Hugh Willison, University of Glasgow, on current research.

Professor Richard Hughes, Emeritus Professor of Neurology at King's College Medical School, speaking on the progress from Amsterdam and Snowbird meetings of eminent researchers and neurologist

Kath Martin, a member speaking on her experiences as a new CIDP patient.

Dr John Nixon, Preston Royal Infirmary, speaking on the Glasshouse project.

Cost. Conference fee £22 members/referrerals (those registered with us for support) - otherwise £40. Hint: You might find it cheaper to join the charity and pay the members' rate. Cost includes lunch and refreshments. No charge for members attending AGM only.

AGM Notice. Formal notice and agenda of AGM was distributed in March.

Who can attend? Anyone with an interest in GBS/CIDP may attend the Conference.

How to get there:

  • By road - M65 J7. Take the A678 exit. Keep left. At the lights, turn left [warning - some SatNavs will wish to turn right], turn next immediate left into estate.
  • By rail - National Rail Enquiries Rishton, Church & Oswaldtwistle are all between one and two miles distant. More services stop at Accrington.

Booking. Attendees may be 'day delegates' who come just for the day. They pay the basic fees as outlined above.

Many attend for the weekend, staying for one night or two. Please book your accommodation on the booking form.

The price of Bed and Breakfast previously stated of £80/£90 has been reduced to £70 per room per night. Anyone who has paid at the previous rate will receive a refund.

Young persons (aged 16-25). Several bursaries are available to enable young people to attend our conference - including two nights' bed and breakfast, conference fees, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and a contribution towards travel costs. A special itineray will be made so that attendees may network with each other and discuss how the charity could become more meaningful to younger people.
